We found this canyon using the map, and decised to check it out. It started in Desert Hot Springs, and continued North, finally ending at Yucca Valley on the other side. The road was reasonably well-maintained, but very sandy, and one very steep area - i.e. 4wd only! We later found out it was Little Morongo Canyon.
